About Isabel

More than photography.

It’s not just the decade of experience that makes me deliver great work. It’s not even the quality of my equipment or background in branding and design. It’s my dedication to you, my clients.

I believe in a collaborative creative process that has helped me uplift brands like Nikon, Columbia, The Thayer Hotel, Armand de Brignac, Stony Brook Medicine, Elle, Variety, and The Guardian. Brand photography needs to tell a story, and who knows your story better than you?

I’m here to translate that story into something special. A visual representation of just what makes you the right choice for your audience.

Together, we will leave an impression that lasts.

A Fresh Perspective

I see the world differently.

As a woman on the spectrum, my perspective shapes the way I navigate through and interpret the world. Colors, textures, and patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed become vibrant details. Interactions that might seem inconsequential become a chapter in a larger brand narrative. My heightened perception allows me to connect deeply with my subjects, capturing emotions and nuances that often evade the conventional eye.

This is a woman and neurodivergent-led business, and I’ve spent my career working to better myself as an imagemaker while also challenging preconceptions about autism.

My work in the field has granted me some amazing experiences. I’m a Nikon100 photographer and have presented my work at major industry conferences like PhotoPlus, Depth of Field, and CES.

Despite this, being on the spectrum has forced me to confront obstacles that many never have to experience. And overcoming those obstacles has shaped me into a creative, resourceful, and highly empathetic person - attributes I bring into every session and interaction.

My neurotype enables me to translate the world into a tapestry of visuals that transcend the ordinary, resonate with authenticity, and foster new understanding.

Ultimately, I help you see the world through a new lens.

Announcement

What's in a name?

For years, I worked and was published professionally as "Isabel Epstein". But in recent years, I've transitioned to living—both personally and professionally—as 🌞 Isabel Tumminello 🌞

Tumminello is my maternal family name. To me, Tumminello feels like cozy hugs and sunshine and eating room-temp caprese* on semolina with my mom on a summer day. Family dinners with the volume turned waaaay up. Laughing. Dancing. Briny ocean water in my hair.

I value the connections to the recognition, publications, and accomplishments tethered to my former name, so this wasn't a decision made lightly. I first considered the name change nearly two decades ago as a teenager. So, needless to say, it's been a long time coming.

Tumminello is from Tummineddu in Sicilian, meaning "wild thyme". Fittingly, I am a passionate edible gardener currently tending to three varities of perennial thyme in my own garden.

I'm proud of my Sicilian heritage: a crossroads of Greek, Norman, and Arabic genetic and cultural influence. I'm proud to come from a family of Tumminello artists - my mom, a retired art teacher; my great-aunt, a career artist; my grandfather, a hobbyist photographer; and my great-grandfather, an ironworker.

I'm equally proud of my Jewish heritage, which remains central to who I am. Changing my surname doesn't change my Jewishness—it simply reflects the identity that feels most like home.

If you've worked with me as Isabel Epstein, it's still me. Same photographer, same values, and same commitment to your vision. Just a name that finally fits.

*Sicilian tip: the only mozzarella you should even *consider* is one that is purchased homemade, fresh, wrapped in whey, and sitting at the store at room temp. Trust me on this: you cannot possibly fully enjoy it cold. Similarly, the tomato must be warm and unblemished with just a tiny bit of give. You'll need thick slices of this and your fresh mozzarella with a semolina loaf that better have been baked this morning. Get a good single-origin olive oil and pour it alllll over that bad boy. That's right: it's a pour, not a drizzle. Don't be timid. You know it's good when the flavor is nutty and vegetal and slightly fruity and blooms in the back of your palate. Layer a thick cut of fresh mozzarella on your juicy tomato with a big ol' leaf of Genovese basil in between, top it with a pinch of salt, and you've got yourself the perfect caprese.

What people are saying.

"Isabel is a tireless perfectionist completely dedicated to the quality of her art. It's a bonus that she is so personable and professional."

My team has contracted Isabel for dozens of projects capturing intricate, detailed food shoots for our social media and web-based hospitality marketing. Isabel has a great eye for the right visuals, is a tireless perfectionist completely dedicated to the quality of her art, and somehow manages to be a positive, energizing element on every project.

Bottom line: we use Isabel exclusively for our most important campaigns because the quality of her work is far superior to her competition. It’s a bonus that she is so personable and professional - we always look forward to the next collaboration.

"Personable, knowledgeable, and extremely thoughtful - excellent to work with."

Isabel is an experienced pro photographer whom I got to know while we were working on an apparel brand startup. She was personable, knowledgeable, and extremely thoughtful throughout the planning and execution of our campaign. She thought of every detail pertaining to what we’d need for the shoot, created a thoughtful shot list, scoped out sites, and even brought her own resources to the forefront so that we could make the shoot happen on a tight budget and timeframe. She brought her multifaceted creative perspective to our shoot, which I valued highly.

When directing the shoot and models, Isabel kept everyone on a timetable that was efficient and organized while maintaining a fun and friendly atmosphere and ensuring we got the shots we needed in the alotted time. I would definitely hire Isabel again for a professional shoot, she was excellent to work with and someone that I’ll gladly keep in my proverbial Rolodex of creative talent.

"Amazingly present, prompt, and communicative...took photographs of the highest quality."

Isabel is a fantastic photographer. We had the pleasure of working with her for a large conference with participants from all around the world.

She was amazingly present throughout the entire experience, took photographs of the highest quality, and was prompt and communicative throughout the whole post-production process. I would recommend her for projects of any and all sizes.

"Dramatically different than what you'd normally see...such beautiful work!"

Isabel's photography is dramatically different than what you'd normally see from an event.

As an attendee and co-creator of the Climate Changes Everything conference, Isabel captured the passion, energy and intensity of the participants. I loved seeing their joyful smiles and impassioned discussions. Such beautiful work!
